Charlotte & Brittany chose a destination wedding because they both love to travel, and a traditional wedding in the U.S. just wasn’t the vibe they wanted. When it came to choosing their resort, they picked El Dorado Royale because it had already hosted LGBTQ weddings before, and that made them feel confident and comfortable. They also loved that the property offers multiple resort “sections” (including adults-only and a more romantic casita-style vibe), plus plenty of venue options like beach, indoor, and skydeck.
They were realistic about guest costs and didn’t pressure anyone to attend, but for the people they really wanted there, they built assistance into their budget. Their biggest worries were things like traveling internationally, customs, and making guests feel safe. They prepared early, used destination wedding Facebook groups for advice, and even did a day trip to the resort ahead of time so they could share a helpful PDF with guests.
Their wedding week was packed with unique moments, including a beach ceremony and a reception under a tiki-style covering by a private pool, complete with glow sticks, bubble guns, a churro bar (because they don’t like cake!), and even a donkey on the beach for photos. One of their favorite memories was the entire wedding party jumping into the pool at the end of the night and getting served drinks right at the swim-up bar.
