At Romance Travel Group, we travel a lot! Over the years, we’ve picked up plenty of packing tricks. Some of us are natural light packers, while others need a little more practice, but we’ve all found ways to make the process easier. Here are our favorite tips to help you pack smart and stress-free for your next trip!

Packing light is the way to go! Think ahead about your days and outfits, and stick to pieces that can mix and match. Choose items you can wear more than once, and only bring one extra outfit “just in case.” A simple trick is to use gallon-size bags to separate and organize outfits, it keeps everything neat and easy to grab.

Shoes take up more space than you realize, so try to limit how many pairs you bring! It might be a good idea to focus your clothing around one color scheme. For example, if you’re packing black sandals, make sure all your outfits coordinate with them. Leave the brown sandals (and the clothes that match them) at home for the next trip.

If you can, travel with just a carry-on. Not only does it save time at the airport, but it also forces you to simplify. One of our favorite sayings is to pack half the things you think you’ll need and bring twice the money instead, you can always make a little shopping part of the adventure!

A few small comfort items can make a big difference. A sleep mask and earplugs are lifesavers on a plane, train, or even in a noisy hotel room. Ladies, keep a large wrap in your carry-on. It works as a blanket on the plane, a scarf if it gets chilly, or even a shawl for a night out.

Make the most of your suitcase space by rolling clothes instead of folding them. Tuck socks, underwear, and accessories into shoes or along the edges of your bag so no space goes to waste. Small bags are also useful! Use zip-top bags for accessories, or repurpose grocery bags for things like shoes, laundry, or to keep liquids from spilling.

Snacks are always a good idea! Pack a few of your favorites in your carry-on, not only to save money but also to make sure you have something healthy or familiar while traveling. For medications, keep them organized in a small zippered pouch so you always have what you need handy.

If you’re traveling as a couple, consider splitting your clothes between two suitcases. That way, if one bag gets lost, you’ll both still have something to wear until it’s found. It’s a simple trick that can save a lot of stress.

Electronics are another thing to plan ahead for. While many hotels now have USB ports, it’s still smart to bring an extension cord. You’ll be glad to have the extra outlets when you’re charging phones, cameras, and tablets—or when multiple people are sharing one hotel bathroom!

Finally, don’t forget about safety and peace of mind. Make photocopies of your passport! Keep one copy in your luggage and leave another with someone at home. Snap photos of your luggage and what’s inside in case it ever gets lost. Consider taking a quick picture of your car in the airport parking garage so you can easily find it when you return.

With these tips, packing for your next trip doesn’t have to be stressful! A little planning goes a long way, and before you know it, you’ll be on your way to making memories that last a lifetime. Ready to put these tips to the test?
